Our growth in practice only happens when we rest sincerely in inquiry. We need an Internal order through subtle perception:
Ashtanga - The eight pillars
The basis of Yoga practice rests in these eight branches that are interdependent and form an indivisible unity. If we transit this path without one of them being present, essentially the ethical principles of Yamas and Nyamas, the possibility of a profound state of unity will not be possible as we deviate from the encounter with the Self. Living these eight pillars guide us to a profound path of discrimination that will help us gradually understand our true nature and thus be able to rest in a state of profound peace.
1. YAMAS Ethical principles that help us transit through life in peace (intention)
Our conduct concerns others, our relationship with the external world.
AHIMSA Sensitivity, non-violence, the way of love.
SATYA Truth, honesty in thought, word and deed, continuous discernment.
ASTEYA
Not ambition, being open to the moment.
APARIGRAHA Acceptance, non-judgmental, continuous disidentification with experiences, actions, and perceptions. Detachment.
BRAMACHARIA Orienting energy. Unity between body, mind, spirit.
2. NIYAMAS Ethical principles that help us move through life in peace (intention).
Individual discipline, the relationship with ourselves.
SAUCHA Internal and external cleanliness, purity in behavior, integrity.
SANTOYA Contentment, equanimity, peace.
TAPAH Discipline, study with passion, transformation.
SVADHYÃYÃ Study of the scriptures.
ISVARAPRANIDHANA Devotion, Surrender to Universal Wisdom.
3. ASANA
Dynamic investigation of matter, physical discipline.
4. PRANAYAMA
Investigation and understanding of the respiratory process, mental discipline.
5. PRATYHARA Walk toward silence, withdrawing attention from external objects, discipline of the senses.
6. DHARANA
Continuous attention, sharpening internal perception.
7. DHYANA
The suster of consciousness at all times, meditation.
8. SAMADHI
Understanding of our nature. Return to unity.
